Art is this very explicit activity. When you come to a ballet, art gallery, or theater performance, you as the viewer are making a conscious effort to participate. But for designers, art is implicit. Better yet, art as a factor of design is inviting the audience to partake in art unsolicited. That act requires disarming the viewer and getting them to trust you.
