Diversity Without Pity #15 | Wham Bam Pow

[responsivevoice_button voice=”UK English Female” buttontext=”Listen to Post”]

I feature a lot of movies and TV shows on Diversity Without Pity because, well, I watch a lot of movies and TV shows. But I also listen to a lot of podcasts. Podcasts, which started as this alternative to radio, has in the past several years grown into a major media platform. And it’s also become a platform for comedians and women of color.

Wham Bam Pow was an unsung hero in the podcast universe. Presented by Maximum Fun,

Wham Bam Pow is an action/sci-fi movie cast. Each week, host Cameron Esposito and panelists Rhea Butcher and Ricky Carmona will terminate your boredom with movie news, interviews & watch-along film reviews. It’s one show to rule them all!

I pour out a lil’ liquor for this deceased series (and another underappreciated gem The Goosedown) because they were so idiosyncratic.

I love this series because it really forces me to think about how someone who is a lesbian, Latinx, Afro-Latinx review sci-fi and action movies. The answers are not prescriptive and are often hilarious. But I also find myself having a lot in common with the hosts. I, too, resent when graphic designers in movies are reduced to feckless creatures. I, too, dislike under-visibility of Latinx in media.

I also just like to listen to other people nerd out on stuff they love. I  like it even more if they teach me something.
