“When people have a comment like ‘a history of black graphic design,’ … the comment will be, ‘Well, why do you need your own graphic design history book?’ Because technically the book that says the history of graphic design does not include me.
I think it’s becoming harder and harder for students to see [the computer] as a tool. … You need to be good at your tool. You need to use it well. You need to know the programs, it’s a tool that should technically make your job easier. I find a lot of times if the students don’t know the tool well, it actually makes the job harder. But it does become a problem because I think the intuitive response gets kind of overlooked because they feel the computer is the only way to do something.” ~ Steve Jones, graphic designer and design professor at San Francisco State University
